THE CLEAN DANCE SYSTEM

DANCING STYLES ARE CHANGING...
The style of dancing among students in high schools and middle schools is changing. The new style of dancing is referred to by many school teachers and administrators as "Dirty" Dancing. This new style is actually called "Freak" dancing or "Freaking" and is the sexual style of dancing you will see in many newer music videos and even described in some song lyrics.

While there are very few things schools can do about the Freak dancing movement that is happening across the country, there are positive and negative ways for Administrators and Teachers to handle the problem within their own school.

It is important that your school have a policy in place within the student handbook and that students understand exactly what moves are not acceptable and what the consequences are if they decide to dance this way. One other important thing to remember is that it is not fair to punish the entire student body for a few student's choice to rebel against the Administration's policy's on dirty dancing.

Simply turning on the lights in the gym, making the DJ shout at the students over the microphone, or canceling your dances altogether is not an effective way of taking care of the problem. While doings these things may seem like a good idea, they may actually lead to more problems with student behavior in the long run.

USE OUR CLEAN DANCE SYSTEM AT YOUR SCHOOL

D.A.N.C.E. has developed a system that will virtually eliminate Freak dancing in your school! Our Clean Dance System is designed specifically for High Schools and Middle Schools. The system works like this:

At the beginning of each school year, students are issued a "Dance Pass" that must be presented at the door before entering the school dance.

Students will be given 2 warnings before their pass is revoked for the year and they are no longer able to attend school dances. When combined with a small incentive program for students who don't get any punches all year, this program is amazing!

We provide all of the training material for your chaperones and teachers, printed dance passes for your student body, student monitoring die-cut punches and tracking book.

QUESTIONS TO ASK YOUR DJ

MAKE SURE YOU ASK THESE QUESTIONS TO YOUR DJ:

1) Are you certified with the DJ Advisory Network and if not, would you be willing to get certified? Being a "Certified DJ" means that the company has agreed to use the No-Play LIst at all school events and has also agreed to follow additional standards and policies set in place to keep your school dances clean. While it's ok to use a DJ that has not been certified, it is strongly recommended that you have your DJ get certified with us. Have them visit our website for more information about getting certified with us.

2) How can you guarantee me that you will play clean music at our school dance? The DJ company should have a better answer then "We only play the radio edits of songs." While radio edits are required to have no bad language in them, they can still have slang terms, sexual content and other vulgarity in the song. Recommend to the DJ company that they visit our website to subscribe to our FREE No-Play List that is updated each month. You could even print a copy of the No-Play List to ensure they have a copy when they arrive at your dance. If they follow the No-Play List, they will be on the right path to keeping your dance clean.

3) What types of things do you do to interact with the students? A good DJ will do more than just play music, but won't go over the line of being inappropriate in their interaction with students. Make sure your DJ is planning on getting your student body involved at the dance, but not through inappropriate gestures or contests.

4) What will you be wearing at our dance? Professional DJs will always dress professionally by wearing a company shirt, or some type of nice attire. Make sure your DJ is not planning on showing up to your dance in jeans and an old t-shirt.

5) What other school events have you done this year? Have the DJ company provide you with some other schools in your area that they have performed at. This will allow you to do some checking with the schools to see how the DJ performed at the previous dances.
